ACT vehicle modification rules

ACT plates mean Access Canberra. VSB 14 is still the national technical code.

Direct answer

If the vehicle is registered in the Australian Capital Territory, start at Access Canberra’s vehicle registration information and search from there for vehicle standards and modifications. VSB 14 is the national technical text. The Territory decides the inspection and the accepted evidence.

Small jurisdiction, same stack

The ACT uses the same three-layer stack as the states: ADRs, VSB 14, local administration. Do not assume a NSW certificate is automatically accepted until Access Canberra says so. Ask first if the car will move onto ACT plates.

State rules hub. Check with Access Canberra before you modify or re-register the vehicle.

Check the rule before you buy the part

If a change affects structure, emissions, lighting, tyres or the vehicle description on the register, stop and read VSB 14 plus your state agency. We can point you at the primary page — we cannot sign the car off.
