Queensland vehicle modification rules

TMR is the Queensland registration authority. Approved Persons and TMR modification codes sit on top of the national bulletin.

Direct answer

If the vehicle is registered in Queensland, TMR’s vehicle modifications pages are the administrative source. VSB 14 remains the national technical text. Queensland’s Approved Person scheme is the local name you will see on much significant-modification paperwork.

What to look for

Look for TMR’s explanation of modification codes, the Approved Person search or list they publish, and any information sheets that match the system you are changing. Queensland has historically been explicit that some work must be signed before the vehicle is used on the road. Do not assume a Victorian “approved modifications” item is automatically unsigned in Queensland.

Evidence

Keep the modification certificate, plate photographs and invoices. Interstate movement later will be easier if the pack is complete. Mutual recognition is TMR’s decision when a vehicle arrives, and the gaining state’s decision when a vehicle leaves.

Check the rule before you buy the part

If a change affects structure, emissions, lighting, tyres or the vehicle description on the register, stop and read VSB 14 plus your state agency. We can point you at the primary page — we cannot sign the car off.
