South Australia vehicle modification rules

SA plates mean the Department for Infrastructure and Transport. VSB 14 remains the technical code.

Direct answer

If the vehicle is registered in South Australia, use the SA vehicle standards and modifications pages. VSB 14 is the national technical text. SA decides the form, the examination and the accepted signatory.

How to use the SA pages

Look for information on modified vehicles, individually constructed vehicles, and any code or engineer pathway the department names. If a URL has moved, start at sa.gov.au and search “vehicle modifications”. Do not fall back to a copied table from another state.

State rules hub. Check with the SA department or a signatory they recognise before you modify the vehicle.

Check the rule before you buy the part

If a change affects structure, emissions, lighting, tyres or the vehicle description on the register, stop and read VSB 14 plus your state agency. We can point you at the primary page — we cannot sign the car off.
