Australian modification guide

Choosing a modifier or engineer

We will not name shops. We will tell you which official register to search and what to send on the first email.

Direct answer

Choose a signatory from the register your registration authority publishes for its scheme — VASS, VSCCS, Approved Person, or the local name. Choose a workshop that will work to the section that signatory cites. This publisher does not rank commercial operators and does not republish the old automotive directory’s business listings.

What to send

VIN, state, the intended change, photographs of the car now, and a request for the VSB 14 section they will use. A workshop that cannot name a section is a styling shop. That can be fine for a listed approved item. It is not fine for a certified code.

Getting engineer sign-off, automotive directory (rewritten as a how-to, not a listing).

Check the rule before you buy the part

If a change affects structure, emissions, lighting, tyres or the vehicle description on the register, stop and read VSB 14 plus your state agency. We can point you at the primary page — we cannot sign the car off.
