The cooling of the intake, water and oil temperatures is imperative if you are running a high performance engine.

On turbo / supercharged cars, the intake charge is heated dramatically and requires cooling before being fed into the engine. An intercooler helps cool the air by moving the air through a series of fins, which cools the air to a much more appropriate temperature. The most common intercooler is the air to air but there are also the water to air variety.

The radiator uses a similar method of cooling but of course is for the water that passes through the engine to aid in lowering engine temperatures.

If you are running a high performance application then it is best to make sure you have your cooling aspects under control or you could do some serious damage.
